Bandor Nagy

Comments on: “Bandor did research”.
It is really very good when enthusiastic people try to find facts and figures about our korfball game.
So I like the initiative of Bandor Nagy to measure: “how much a korfball player is running during a game?”
But still I have some comments on his research:

Bandor’s research gives only some numbers:
“How many V- Shots were made by some players”?
Besides that you should know before the research that Tigers and Panthers will make more shots than Bears or Wolves, I miss the relation between attempts and results. (Goals)
The same comment I can make about number of jumps and distance players covered during a match.
I expect that a Bear will make most jumps and I expect that Tigers, Panthers and Wolves have to cover a longer distance than Bears. I have an interest as a coach not only in how many jumps Bears make but how many times Bears win the rebound.
I have not so much interest in distances players cover. I like to know how players get a free position and how they cooperate and communicate in going to positions. What does that mean to the objectives in the match?
So I hope Bandor continues his research. But his research should give more interesting figures for coaches than he gave last time.

It is very interesting how many shots a player makes during a game. During the competition in the Dutch korfball league we do this already for a long time. Joost Spierings publish these facts on the KUS site which can be opened by a login. Coaches of the KL teams can read these figures pro player every week.

Example:
Here are some interesting figures of the KL competition during 210-2011.
Total dynamic shots:
a. Attempts Long Shots: 7025. Goals: 1080 (15,37%)
b. Attempts Running-In Shots: 377. Goals: 145 (38,46%)
c. Attempts Short distance Shots: 1012. Goals: 295 (29,15%)
(These figures are composed by Gert Jan Kraaijeveld.)

What can a coach learn from these figures?
Long Shots for top players are the most important skill. Top Players have to practice deliberately a long time before they have a score of 20 -30%. If players make more goals from a distance the defence have to change her way.
If you can get the figures of each player a coach can conclude what kind of defence he will coach. Every coach in the KL competition has these figures of each player, who participates in the Korfbal League
