Some English persons were disappointed that the Dutch became (still) the winner in the EC 2011!
To improve the playing level for instance in England costs money energy and good governance is also needed!
May be I got the wrong information? But.....
As long national players can only be selected to play important international tournaments for the national team when they are ready to pay a part of a total amount of the costs of lodging and board you never get the best players.
Money:
England needs a kind of saving fund in which every korfball player pays for international korfball. When every player pays each month 1 pound then the finances for sending the best team can be secured. England can select the best players.
The participation of World Championship will be very costly.
Governance:
Already in 1948 and again in 1992 KNKV invested money and energy, to help the English Korfball, to improve the association and the playing level. During my period as national coach (1978 - 1993) , the Dutch national team visited several times England, for promoting korfball and played then during weekends matches against the English national team. These trips lasted every time more than 5 days!
There were also clinics for coaches and top players. Every time it seemt to be very difficult to collect the best people.
English korfball exists already more than 60 years.
Since a short time I heard really optimistic and positive stories about the competition and the spreading out korfball all over the country. There are young energic people who establish a better competition. The National Team of England is young and especially the men are talented.
So I think there is a new and better future.
Help and development
I know for sure that the KNKV will invest money to help England and every country in the world. KNKV wants more countries who have a better playing level. KNKV wants more A countries.
But now a days KNKV don't give help if they cannot see that people who get the help are not really going for independency.
Korfball Aid
KNKV is ready to give knowledge to every country that shows that they have a healthy governance, a good competition and people who really like korfball as a fantastic sport.
Dutch teams travelled last summer to Spain and China. KNKV national teams will go to every country if there is any serious prove that a country will promote korfball and develop the playing level. There should be plans of action.
Talented and ambitious, foreign players are welcome in the Netherlands, to show their talent and to participate in the KL Teams.

Playing level in international tournaments
2010: The European Championships
21-25 October: Qualification matches in Almelo, The Hague, Leeuwarden, Rotterdam and Tilburg.
25-30 October: Special qualifying rounds in Rotterdam (In the Topsportcentrum).
31th October: Finale in Rotterdam (At the Ahoy arena).
One of the biggest problems korfball is coping with today, is finding a competitive balance for international tournaments. If the results will follow any conventional outcome, we already know the order of the silver and golden rankings: 1. Netherlands; 2 Belgium. After the first and the second place, we can describe a battle for the bronze medal: Chinese Taipei, the Czech Republic, Russia, England, Portugal, Germany and Spain will be competitors to eachother.
The best promotion for korfball would be to make the matches harder: there is a need for international competition and national teams that can beat both Belgium and the Netherlands.
In 2010 there is an opportunity for European countries to work on their playing level and to compete with the Netherlands and Belgium. But the countries that would like to work on these targets, have to start a real serious preparation. This might be impossible in their home countries, because to improve the playing level these teams will have to compete against strong(er) opponents.
A suggestion for those who would seriously want to improve their playing level, is to try to come to the Netherlands in May and in June and make a lot of matches during 4 weeks against the top clubs. They can travel around and ask these clubs what they can pay (I would suggest each match could pay about 800 euros). The clubs will be able to earn this amount back by advertising and by the profits they can make from income fees payed by the visiting supporters.(Not only European countries, also other countries from other continents are very welcome! In 2011 there is the World Championship in China. The preparation for that tournament should be started also in 2010)
I realize that the players have to leave their schools and their work. But in top sport there no other route: you can only totally go for it!
